Teen Crimes

If your troubled teenager is getting him/herself involved in teen crimes then you may wonder-- why? Several conditions may lead to the development of teenage crimes, among these are the following: family issues, poverty, atmosphere, and media pressure.

Family Issues

A factor which has shown to have an influence on the proportions of teen crimes is the number of single parents. The family unit is a strong example of responsibility, accountability, loyalty, honesty, and commitment. Marriage itself has been showing a decline over the decades that have passed. The number of single parents out there is on a rise.

Situations may vary from separation, divorce, annulment, to children born out of wedlock. Studies have shown that broken homes often influence teenage crimes. Females may commit crimes different from that of males from broken homes. Of course this does not mean that one can go around blaming single mothers for having delinquent children, it may just show that the probability of occurrence of teen crimes may be elevated in such situations.

Poverty

Poverty may be a widespread issue for a number of teenagers in the community. Studies have shown that teens from lower socioeconomic levels have a tendency to be more hostile than those from higher levels. The economic strain that poverty may place on a teenager may be enough to lead him/her into teen crime. The socioeconomic level itself can make an adolescent more conducive to problem behavior.

Atmosphere

The idea behind atmosphere as a factor for teen crime is the concept of one’s context as a major influence in one’s behavior. Considering atmosphere, one’s potential for hostility may not truly be enlivened without witnessing violence around him/her.

Frankly, violence can be seen by your teenager in a number of everyday situations. These situations may portray hostile behavior as the only way to deal with circumstances, even if there may be other alternatives. One’s own neighborhood may be a dangerous place to get by, full of negative influences from either peers or even surrounding gangs.

Media Pressure

Television has actually become a common babysitter in the houses of many parents. Despite your intentions to be able to sift through whatever influences may reach your children, you may not always be there to censor what your teen may be taking in from media such as television commercials or shows.

Action and violence can be viewed in a number of prime time shows. Teens may get so used to seeing this hostility on camera that it may come to a point where it is not even shocking anymore.
