Defiant Child Behavior problems
Forming a stronger bond of respect and love with your teen
Once your child hits adolescence, you yourself may be hit with defiance as your teenager goes through a lot of physical and mental changes. Reestablishing proper respect is something that many parents out there should be working on with their troubled teenagers. The book “The Time Keeper” was written in order to help your teen realize how much he should value his relationship with his parents. Kevin Cropp, the author, was actually a rebellious teen himself and describes his real life experience with his own mother in The Time Keeper. It was Kevin’s rebellion that made him lose respect for his mom but when she faced a life-threatening sickness he learned to love her the hard way.

Kevin’s mother, 38 year old Linda Wails, is diagnosed with cancer and after all the clashes she has had with her son she finally wishes that they can treat one another with the proper respect and love that a mother and son should have.

Kevin wrote this book in order for teens to learn from his mistakes and awaken them in order to lessen their rebellious behavior. They shouldn’t have to be faced with losing their parents in order to cherish them.

If you feel that you see your own teenager in Kevin, giving your teen this book in order to help remind him about how much he should really be valuing you as a parent is a good idea. But if you’re apprehensive that he won’t even take a look at it, why not send the book to your teen as an anonymous gift. When the book first came out, Copper Press, Cropp’s publisher, actually invited parents to purchase copies of the book for their teens that could be anonymously sent as a “special gift” that they were chosen to receive. This way a rebellious teen may be curiously inclined to read through it instead of just giving it back to you.

“The Timekeeper is a must-read especially for mothers and their sons. Readers of Cropp's story will find it eerily familiar. No child has a perfect relationship with their mother, and it is therefore very real to be absorbing yourself into the imperfect relationship between Corey and Linda Wails. The Timekeeper is a reminder to all that neither life nor our relationships last forever, and so it is important to make both last as long as we can,” commented Sally Fry, in her Enloe HS Student Review.

Any parent or teen can find a number of points in the book that they can relate to.
