If you are interested in working with troubled teens who are juvenile delinquents there are plenty of settings where you can do so. There are programs for at risk teens who may have been in trouble before or who are headed in that direction based on their choices and behaviors. These are generally volunteer positions such as those through the Boys and Girls Club.  Juvenile detention centers are a good place to work with troubled teens who are juvenile delinquents. The work can be quite challenging and rewarding but there are plenty of risks involved. You have to be prepared for any type of situation including those that may become physical altercations. Most programs that involve working with troubled teens who are juvenile delinquents involve obtaining a degree in a specific area, especially if you expect to get paid for the work you do. Some of the areas you can consider specializing in are counseling, social work, psychology, mental health, and education. There is also a great deal of training to prepare you for the job both physically and mentally. Some of the areas you will need to be trained in are first aid, self defense, and various techniques to restrain out of control teens. The decision to work with troubled teens who are juvenile delinquents is a powerful position. It is one you should enter into for the right reasons. You need to have a sincere desire to help these troubled teens make positive changes in their lives. If you are in the job only for the money you will be of no use to them and you will quickly burn out on the job. |
