Mount Carmel Youth Ranch has programs that aid young teen males from 12-18 years old who are struggling with issues in three main categories: Academic underachievement or Suspension, Alcohol and drug abuse, Rebellious and defiant.
These are some troubled teen warning signs that the ranch offers to concerned parents.
 Troubled Teen Warning Signs
If you fear that your teenager’s behavior has been changing for the worst then look out for these signs:
1. Your teenager does not listen to or do what you tell him to do. Instead, the actions that he commits put him at risk or the family in a tricky situation. This leads to a stressful atmosphere at home.
2. Your teen starts to show opposite behavior from what was usually normal for him. He may sleep too much if he used to have trouble sleeping. Or he may start forgetting things if he used to have a good memory. He may start acting aggressive if he used to be passive. Or his grades may begin to lower if they used to be topnotch. He may even start hating his favorite hobby or start to love an act that he once demised. He could become a loner if he once loved company or he could keep himself away from home as he enjoys the company of friends most of the time.
3. Your teenager shows no care for the consequences of his actions upfront. He is openly disrespectful and rebellious. Constant displays of dishonesty and disobedience are shown.
4. Your house rules are thrown away by your teen. The beliefs and boundaries that you may have passed on to your child are totally disregarded or rebelled against. We’re not just talking about a teen not wanting to wash the dishes after supper but extreme excessiveness where he may not want to follow any rules or repeatedly goes against them.
5. Your teen tries to blackmail you with outrageous threats of suicide or self-harm (for example cutting). He may also be outwardly promiscuous and may not even care to take risks in front of you or let you find out about his drug use. Your teen may display a loss of moral compass.
6. Your teen may begin to treat people or even pets that he once cared for with aggression or indifference. He may threaten them.
7. Your teen may want to always be the center of attention, without caring for the feelings of others in the family. They will do anything while only caring for their time and their things.
8. Counseling sessions may not appear to be showing any progress.
9. Your teen will not join any family activities or events as hatred for the family grows within.
10. Your teenager is addicted to the company of negative peers and refuses to be kept away from them even as they display behavior which is opposite from what you want your teen to be showing.
