Help for Troubled Teenagers Forum

Confused - 2007/02/20 06:18 I have two thirteen-year-old twins, Breauna and Kaietlyn. Both are gorgeous young girls and seem to be very popular in their schools. Next year they will be in highschool. Lately, they have been extremely rude to me, and just plain disobey me. I dont have many rules at the house, and we have a maid and cook to do all of our chores, other than the few i take care of. But they still seem to think that life in our family is so hard. I am only 25 years old, and they use the excuse that I'm young enough to be their sister, why should they listen to me? When I was 12 years old, I was raped. In result, I was pregnant, and had gotten 2 Sexually Transmitted Diseases. I didnt know what to do. And everyday my kids use that against me. They are already having sex, and unprotected. They tell me that if I "did it" when i was 12, then they should have the freedom to "do" whomever they want. I dont know what to do. I have tried taking away all privledges such as parties, going out and so on. I have tried taking away all their mini-skirts and slutty clothes, excuse my language,so they can't go out looking easy. I tried grounding them to simply home and school. They sneak out, and sneak boys in. Im in desperate need of help!!!!!

Re:Confused - 2007/02/26 19:17 What your two twins should know is that they can not simply base all their decision-making on your life’s events. They are living their own lives which means that they are making the moves for themselves. As a parent, you provide the guidance which they require as teenagers, but as individuals it is up to them to follow through with the correct actions. If they make faulty actions they should know that there is no one to blame but themselves. Their individual lives are blank sheets which they can fill. The events in your life that passed are in no way the set road for your twins’ lives. Let them be fully aware of this.
