Help for Troubled Teenagers Forum

ADHD - 2007/03/31 02:09 My son is 12 years old - 6th grader. He is currently being treated for ADHD and is on medication (has been for 2 years). He has always made good grades but lately he has become very disrespectful to some of his teachers, blurting out in class... trying to be the class clown and simply not following direction nor turning in work. I have put him on restriction, taken away all fun and activities -- nothing is working. He goes back to school and it starts all over again. I am going nuts ... as well as his teachers.

Re:ADHD - 2007/04/02 15:17 Since your son has been properly treated for ADHD (on medication) for the past 2 years, his sudden behavioral change in school may be attributed to another occurrence. It would be a good idea to talk to him and ask him about how he has been feeling (or if anything happened he’d like to tell you) in order to find out exactly what might be the root cause of his class disturbance. Also, keep in mind that at his particular age 12 going on 13- many young boys are especially excited about entering into adolescence and this can bring about added energy which can be positively or negatively interpreted through his actions.
