Passion versus practicality. This is an age-old dilemma of parents and their artistically-driven children. Of course, as a parent it is normal for you to be concerned about the practical aspect of your teen’s choice of career but in the end it is really your teen’s decision to make. You may influence her decision but keep in mind that you can’t make it for her. Explain your concerns regarding her choice of degree and in turn let her explain her own wants and thoughts. Try to keep each other on the same page in order to fully understand whatever path your daughter is planning to take. Make sure that she is aware of the typical issues that she may have to deal with if she chooses that path, but try not to come off as forceful. As much as we may want to make all the perfect decisions for our own teenagers, they are growing up into adults themselves.
