I’ve known a number of troubled teenagers who have struggled with several problems at the same time, just like your step daughter. From what you have told me of her, the first thing that came to my mind is that she needs to go back to the basics. There appears to be so much going on in her life at present which is going the wrong way instead of the right and in these types of cases, a troubled teenager can just keep on plummeting to the depths! But this can be stopped if you find a way to have her get some professional help. Having regular sessions with a psychologist or psychiatrist who can prescribe medication if required, can help her get back on track. She’s definitely far from the right path right now and with professional help she can get re-focused. You can even attend several sessions with a psychotherapist yourself in order to get appropriate advice to deal with her spiraling down at present.
