What do I do now? - 2008/02/01 20:06
My daughter is 14. I first found out about her using drugs right before Christmas. She was suspended from school and I had to go pick her up. She was high. I was devastated to say the least. I have found out over the last few months that she has been drinking, using prescription pills and smoking marijuana for almost two years. That I didn't know it, still baffles me and makes me feel like such a bad parent. How could I not have known?
Since then things have only gotten worse. She has run away twice. Been court ordered to a local program for 3 weeks, ran away from there, and the day she ran away was raped.
I have met brick wall after brick wall trying to get help. After 6 weeks of trying to find a bed in a treatment facility I have come to a dead end. Our insurance turned us down saying she doesnt meet the criteria. She is diagnosed with alcohol and drug addiction, conduct disorder and ADHD. Even the doctor wrote a letter for the insurance company stating that after out patient groups and counseling that she needs inpatient.
We cannot afford to pay out of pocket for treatment facilities or any of the boarding houses, etc.
I am at an absolute loss as to what to do now.
I am afraid for her and now that her 21 day court order is over and she has to return to school, I am scared that she will either run away again or something worse will happen to her.
I need advice on where to go from here. Please.
