Running from home! - 2006/08/25 00:55 My teenager keeps on running away. We’ve caught him running away 6 times already. And it’s making everyone at home tired. We’re constantly worrying about him, but it seems as if he doesn’t care. We’ve come to the decision that the safest thing for him would be to send him to a boarding school. We’re just wondering about what may happen and how or if he may change after time in his new environment.

Re:Running from home! - 2006/08/25 00:57 The security in a boarding school for troubled teens is specially planned around the nature of unruly or defiant adolescents. This makes the conditions or new environment for your teen helpful in the sense that you will not have to worry about his running away. Some parents question the fact why they even have to send their kids away in the first place in order to keep them from running away. It does sound quite ironic, but defiant teens can be most defiant to their very own parents. This is a characteristic which has been observed in numerous studies with regard to adolescence. The environment which has been specially constructed for defiant teens in a respective type of boarding school may be most conducive to positive improvement in his behavior. This does not promise you a new person when your son comes home for school breaks but it does offer him the best chances for positive change.

Re:Running from home! - 2006/09/01 01:33 After our troubled teenager came home from a camp for teens like him last summer, he seemed out of it. He was always quiet at the dinner table and he seemed much more reserved. After a couple more weeks, he started to include himself in the dining table family chitchat. But we definitely saw an improvement in his self-restraint. We really felt that he came home much more reserved. Sending him to that camp for troubled teens was really a blessing for him and our family. It was the right decision and we’re definitely glad that we made it. So don’t be fearful of how your own teen may come back after spending some time away at a teen program. We’ve personally seen how helpful these problem teenager programs can really be.

Re:Running from home! - 2007/12/11 09:18 My older brother was like that, would leave and not come home for a few days. My parents sent him to a boarding school, he came back a whole new kid! He went to Eagle Ranch Academy. I am so thankful to them! www.eagleranchacademy.com
