If your teen won’t listen to you, these are three tips that can help: • Steer clear of preaching. Don’t drone on when you mean to say just one thing. More likely, you may be ignored, especially if you mention cliché remarks which your teenager is tired of hearing. • Don’t put a label on your teen. When you place a label on your teen’s behavior, you restrict him in certain ways. If you call him “unproductive” long enough, he may just end up that way. In ways, you may even be molding him to fit your negative comments/labels. Positive remarks which encourage further development rather than stifle growth are a better alternative. At least with these kinds of comments, you are sure that you are making room for growth and not containing your child. • Be positive and encourage a positive outlook in your child. By speaking of the future positively, your teen will be inclined towards proving your comments true!
If you know you’ve been dealing with your daughter the right way and have been asking or responding to her with the right questions as well, you may be wondering, if I did the right thing how come she did not respond the right way? Adolescence can actually be related to a narcissistic like quality where a teenager may not care about anything but her wants and needs. Even if you are providing her with the proper guidance and rules, because of this quality it may not matter at all. This results in rebellion which can ultimately lead to your predicament.
