Re:What do I do now? - 2008/02/02 10:16
Because your daughter is doing drugs at a young age (14), it may be best for her to continue to receive counseling, even outpatient counseling if inpatient treatment is not possible. At this age, it has been studied that teens are more receptive to professional therapy and it can help mold her behavior for the years to come where troubled teens have been notorious to be hard-headed and one-way thinkers. Hopefully, if you catch her at this age with the proper therapy, her behavior will not worsen. Definitely the kinds of issues she is dealing with at just the start of adolescence need the continued proper attention from a counselor or therapist. Her own physical health is at hand and this must be addressed. Also, a counselor may help you deal with her negative influence relationships. By disciplining your daughter, you are concerned with her well-being and future. But what makes this hard to understand for your daughter is that she, on the other hand, is concerned with her own wants. Counseling can simultaneously provide help as you may opt to speak to your teen and consider trying an approach where you open up a bit yourself about your own experiences while at the same time introducing proper advice as to how she should be acting responsibly.
