After going through your situation with your stepson, counseling appears to be the most appropriate answer to take in order to avoid further conflict as well from his custodial mother which may ensue if you would decide to presently press charges. The fact that your stepson will be spending more time with you and his father this summer can actually work to your advantage. Both you and his father will be able to monitor his counseling. It can be harder to discipline troublesome teens when they go back and forth between parents, but while he stays with you he can be given proper focus. Pick from your local counselors or inquire with the guidance counselor in school for recommendations. Check up on his counseling sessions in order to have hands-on involvement. This will help keep him on track while going through therapy. If his custodial parent will not take the actions required in order to control her son then you and his father can take control.
