Elevated mood swings are characteristics of a teenager who is seeking attention from others. But the way in which your teen is getting this attention is distorted because it springs from negativity. There is a way that this can change if your teen finds a different way to feel that he belongs with those teens around him and at the same time receive the attention that he is searching for. It is normal for a teen to yearn for attention during the period of adolescence, especially at the start (like your son’s age- 14.) What you can do to help your son find a positive way to feel like he belongs is help introduce him to a hobby or interest that can get him involved with others while nurturing his talents. At the same time, as he improves in this activity that he enjoys, he will develop his confidence and good self-image. His self-concept will be cultivated and it will help him realize the right way to act around his family.
